Tanynya Hekymara

About

Tanynya is dedicated to Restorative Justice and creating cultures of access and belonging. Her unique experience in every element of organizational leadership allows her to be a mindful, bold, and courageous consultant.  She partners with schools and movement organizations to reshape narratives and systems by providing support strategies.  She uses intentional plans of action that bring the complex composition of a community into the work. Her abiding passion is to bring about transformational change in educational, professional, and community spaces, to include all voices, and to inspire communities to seek connection and justice.

She began her career as an educator and community organizer at the University of Southern California (USC) as an Admission Director. She was tasked with increasing the transfer of Black and Latina/o students from Community Colleges to USC. The disparities in resources, counseling, preparation, and support for the students she was trying to recruit became more apparent. Tanynya continues doing work to close systemic gaps in places such as public, charter, and independent schools, universities, and social justice organizations.

In her current role as a Restorative Justice and Culture of Belonging Consultant, she synthesizes and creates strategies to continue the momentum toward cultures of belonging through leadership and Restorative Justice coaching, training, and facilitation, professional development, and transforming systems, to support this valuable work within schools, community organizations, universities, and companies.  She also collaborates with schools to create inclusive libraries and curriculums of belonging.

Tanynya is the founder of We Belong to Each Other Consulting and is partnered with the University of San Diego as a coach in the National Restorative Justice Coaching Program, a mentor in the Certificate in Restorative Justice Facilitation and Leadership, and guest lecturer, The Core Collaborative as a Restorative Consultant, Heartset Consulting Group, California Conference for Equity and Justice, holds independent contracts with schools, universities, and organizations, and is a co-founder of California Anti-Racism Alliance.

Tanynya continues to organize, volunteer, and teach in her community.  Certified in Vinyasa, and Kemetic Yoga, she guides yoga for elementary school students in Inglewood California.  Tanynya is on the Board of The H.E.arts:  Heartfelt Education Through the Arts and Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre, serves as an advisor for Splendid Mola/Writers Happiness Movement’s Wisdom Advisory Council and the Southern California Restorative Justice Consortium Advisory Council, and the National Association of Community and Justice inaugural DEIJ Committee.  Occasionally she writes articles and mentors through USC Black Alumni Association Legacy through Leadership.
