Mediation Training from a Social Justice Perspective (6-Days)

1/16/2025 - 1/19/2025

Description

Participants are trained to mediate while applying a social justice lens to their own techniques, working to ensure a fair process for all disputants. The training explores the relationship between social justice and how conflicts develop and are resolved in mediation. Participants gain strategies to address these challenges while still facilitating a process with self-determination about the outcome remaining with the disputing parties. Activities include lecturettes, interactive activities, analyses using (actual) videotaped mediation sessions, skill improvement and roleplays; with a focus on the exploration of concepts and skills application rather than on consciousness-raising or group dynamics analyses. Participants receive a mediation certificate upon successful completion of the training. While it is not a restorative justice training, many of the concepts and skills are transferrable. Open to experienced mediators as well as those new to mediation.
