Building Empathy and Resilience through Restorative Practices and Environmental Education hosted by Center for Restorative Justice & Peacemaking

Thursday, November 5, 2026 (12:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (CST)

Description

Hosted by the Center for Restorative Justice & Peacemaking, University of Minnesota Duluth

Explore how restorative practices and place-based environmental learning can work together to support connection, reflection, and engagement with youth. Drawing from the Tell It to the Trees curriculum and a case study conducted with at-risk youth in a residential setting, participants will learn how trees and local nature were used as a medium for environmental learning, restorative dialogue, and personal reflection.

Participants will experience selected curriculum activities, explore the values of empathy, resiliency, and hope, and consider how these approaches can be adapted for their own work. The workshop will provide practical strategies for educators, social workers, restorative justice practitioners, and other youth-serving professionals to incorporate youth voice, participant choice, reflection, and connection to place into their practice.
