Sam Williams, M.A., is an educator, restorative justice practitioner, and trauma-informed facilitator whose work integrates social science, neuroscience, and community-based practice. From 2010 to 2025, his teaching and training have centered on restorative justice, trauma studies, and systems transformation, with a focus on the intersection of race, justice, and healing.
Sam Williams is also restorative justice practitioner who has spent more than fifteen years bridging education, justice reform, and healing-centered practice. Since 2021, as Executive Director of Concord Prison Outreach, he has helped grow its restorative justice programs to seven Department of Correction facilities and two county jails across Massachusetts, while also facilitating restorative justice groups at the Wyatt Federal Detention Center in Rhode Island. Through this work, he has trained over 250 participants as restorative justice facilitator building a statewide network of healing and accountability.
At Northeastern University and Boston University, Sam teaches experiential courses in Restorative Justice, guiding students through the theory and practice of circle facilitation, critical race and systems analysis, and applied restorative methods in community and institutional settings. He previously co-taught The Psychology of Trauma at the University of Massachusetts Boston and Restorative Justice: Transforming the Law from Within at Boston College Law School, helping students connect personal reflection with social and legal transformation.
In addition to his academic appointments, Sam serves as the Restorative Justice Coordinator for the U.S. District Court’s RISE specialty court program, where he designs and facilitates restorative pathways for individuals on pretrial supervision. He is also an appointed member of the Massachusetts Restorative Justice Advisory Committee (RJAC),supporting statewide implementation of restorative justice policy and practice under the Executive Office of Public Safety.
Sam completed the Traum Research Foundation’s Certification Certificate in Traumatic Stress Studies (directed by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk) and advanced training in Victim-Centered Dialogue (JUST Alternatives), conflict transformation (Mediators Beyond Borders International), and restorative group facilitation (Ahimsa Collective). His volunteer and consulting work includes the Reimagining Juvenile Justice Initiative and the Civil Rights & Restorative Justice Project.
