Approaches to Deescalation: Embodied and Interpersonal Practices HOSTED BY SPRING UP COLLECTIVE
Community and restorative justice continues to grow and expand across the U.S. and world. With that growth comes increased opportunities for trainings, conferences, and events to deepen one’s relationship with these practices. In our commitment to continual learning, practice, and facilitating connections, we offer this calendar as a go to place to share and find community and restorative justice events.
Please note: This calendar is intended to serve as a resource, and entries do not constitute an endorsement by NACRJ. We encourage individuals to independently evaluate the suitability of each event for their specific needs and preferences.

Approaches to De-escalation - Virtual Retreat
Spring Up Collective will be hosting a fully virtual daylong retreat.
Join the Spring Up Collective and peer practitioners in a session designed to inspire critical thinking and share tangible practices on de-escalation as a transformative justice practice. In the past, many of us have been encouraged to seek out self-defense or individual de-escalation skills. Yet as we see tides of inspiring community responses to very public harm, we are activated to be in conversation about de-escalation planning with our people (pods, groups, neighbors). As marginalized peoples and community organizers are challenged by increasing threats to our communities, many of us feel called to plan for care and safety with those around us. At the core of this retreat is the question, how can we develop the de-escalation skills to engage with our collective power to reduce harm across different sociopolitical contexts? From somatic tools to ground ourselves in stressful moments to strategies for nonviolent intervention, the need for fluid approaches to support those around us in public and intended safe spaces is growing. Do you find yourself wondering how to develop shared language and skills to strengthen your community’s safety protocols?
