University of San Diego Foundational Restorative Justice Training for Higher Education (3-Day)

Community and restorative justice continues to grow and expand across the U.S. and world. With that growth comes increased opportunities for trainings, conferences, and events to deepen one’s relationship with these practices. In our commitment to continual learning, practice, and facilitating connections, we offer this calendar as a go to place to share and find community and restorative justice events.

Please note: This calendar is intended to serve as a resource, and entries do not constitute an endorsement by NACRJ. We encourage individuals to independently evaluate the suitability of each event for their specific needs and preferences.

University of San Diego Foundational Restorative Justice Training for Higher Education (3-Day)

Thursday, October 19, 2023 9:00 AM - Saturday, October 21, 2023 12:00 PM (CDT)

Description

What does it mean to be a restorative college or university?
“A restorative university seeks to prevent or respond to harm by using restorative practices across the institution. Rather than siloed within a singular office, such as an office of student conduct, restorative approaches are aligned with its institutional mission, apparent in the student development efforts within the division of student affairs, employed by faculty in their classrooms and as a topic of research, and seen in human resources as part of their efforts to create an equitable and rewarding workplace.”

– David R. Karp, Director, USD Center for Restorative Justice

How will this training equip me to be a leader for change in higher education?
During the training, participants learn about the framework of restorative justice, its methodology and processes, and have the opportunity to practice the skills needed for facilitation. The training covers community-building practices and processes; restorative conferences and coaching to repair harm; community-concern circles to address community-level issues or systemic harm; and reintegration circles to welcome community members back into the community. The training also addresses institutional capacity-building and implementation of these processes.

What can I expect from this training?
● In-person training delivered at the Center for Restorative Justice at the University of San Diego.
● It is an immersive, experiential training that develops the knowledge and skills needed to facilitate restorative justice processes for preventing harm, strengthening the community, and responding to incidents of harm.
