Position Summary: 

The Executive Director of Kansas Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (KIPCOR) is responsible for the overall administration of the Institute, reporting to the Bethel College liaison to KIPCOR (Vice President for Academic Affairs) and consulting with the KIPCOR Advisory Council. This administrative role includes managing a small staff and overseeing staff relations with Bethel College, participating in KIPCOR training and interventions, interpreting KIPCOR work to donors and the general public, managing/raising KIPCOR operating funds, and advocating for KIPCOR’s mission, which focuses on peace, social justice, and conflict resolution within a higher education setting.  KIPCOR is a part of Bethel College, and the Executive Director will work with and support the mission and values of the college.

 

Essential Functions: 

Specific responsibilities for the Executive Director of KIPCOR include:

Serve as the primary liaison with Bethel College administration and the KIPCOR Advisory Council.

Manage and work collaboratively with KIPCOR staff in the assignment of Institute work.

Be primarily responsible for raising operating and endowment funds, both from grants and from individual/corporate donors.

Oversee KIPCOR training and intervention work.

Manage KIPCOR’s budget.

Serve as the primary interpreter of KIPCOR work to the general public and supporters.

Implement strategic planning.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

All KIPCOR staff job performance is evaluated annually by the Executive Director of KIPCOR.

All staff salaries are determined by the Executive Director of KIPCOR.

KIPCOR staff and volunteers are hired by the Executive Director of KIPCOR in consultation with the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

A minimum of a Master’s degree in conflict transformation or a related field, or a law degree.

Direct, successful experience in grant writing and/or fundraising.

Demonstrated innovative leadership experience.

Familiarity with various uses of electronic and social media to communicate with constituents/supporters and to interpret and market services/programs for a small nonprofit organization.

 Preferred Qualifications:

Significant training in conflict resolution/transformation, restorative justice, and other alternative dispute resolution processes.

Experience as a mediator and/or group facilitator.

Experience teaching and/or training at the secondary, collegiate, or adult-education level.

Experience and comfort working with persons from a wide range of educational, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Experience working in a nonprofit setting.

Experience organizing large public events.

 Skills Required:

Excellent “people skills” within the office that generate collaboration with staff and encourage mutual respect among staff and with volunteers.

Excellent public presentation skills, both oral and written.

Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure and juggle multiple, sometimes competing, tasks.

Cultural competency with the commitment to diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and anti-oppression.

Excellent listener, with the ability to incorporate ideas from others into planning and programming.

Ability to interpret KIPCOR work effectively to raise funds, both from grants and from other donors.

Basic budget planning and management.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an office environment.

Efficient use of computer software platforms and products.
