Creating our World through Play - Restorative Teaching Tools 3-day Training Hosted by Lindsey Pointer and Kathleen McGoey

Community and restorative justice continues to grow and expand across the U.S. and world. With that growth comes increased opportunities for trainings, conferences, and events to deepen one’s relationship with these practices. In our commitment to continual learning, practice, and facilitating connections, we offer this calendar as a go to place to share and find community and restorative justice events.

Please note: This calendar is intended to serve as a resource, and entries do not constitute an endorsement by NACRJ. We encourage individuals to independently evaluate the suitability of each event for their specific needs and preferences.

To submit an event, please click the "+" button to the right. Please allow 2-3 days for your submission to appear on the calendar. You will be notified by email when your event is posted.

Creating our World through Play - Restorative Teaching Tools 3-day Training Hosted by Lindsey Pointer and Kathleen McGoey

8/3/2026 - 8/4/2026

Description

Join us for an immersive 3-day Restorative Teaching Tools Training designed for restorative justice practitioners, trainers, and educators.

This interactive training takes place in-person at a beautiful retreat center in Loveland, Colorado.

You will gain a toolkit of games and activities for teaching restorative justice and learn the art of designing your own experiential activities to meet your community’s learning needs. Along with the authors of The Little Book of Restorative Teaching Tools, Kathleen McGoey and Lindsey Pointer, our facilitation team brings together the brilliant Gilbert Salazar (Colorizing Restorative Justice author) and Erica Lee!

Please spread the word with anyone you think may be interested -  we ask that training participants have a foundational understanding of restorative justice and restorative practices. Registration deadline is May 22, 2026.

Why Did We Choose a Pinecone for our Training Image?

Our theme for the summer training this year is "creating our world through play." In reflecting on this theme, the image of a fractal came to mind.

fractal is a geometric pattern that is self-similar, meaning it looks similar or identical at different scales. Other naturally occurring examples are seashells, snowflakes, and ferns. Because this training takes place in the beautiful Colorado mountains, a pinecone felt like the perfect choice!

In adrienne maree brown's Emergent Strategy, fractals in nature represent the idea that how we are at a small-scale (in our personal practices and relationships) is how we are in large-scale systems and social movements. It is essential to find small-scale spaces to practice and enact the type of transformation we are working toward on a larger scale.

The intention of this summer's training is to cultivate a space where we can practice being, learning, and growing in restorative community together, so that we can bring that experience into our wider experiences and lives. We invite participants into an immersive community experience that fosters authenticity, connection, and play. We will explore and dream together about the large-scale transformation we are already creating as we live out these values in small-scale ways.

Prerequisite: We request that training participants have a foundational understanding and experience with restorative justice and restorative practices prior to participating in this training. The focus of this course is learning to facilitate activities to teach restorative principles and skills. Therefore, a preexisting knowledge of restorative justice principles and practice is necessary.
